STONE LISTING
Chris McIntyre - SoHo SoLo
Chris McIntyre (trombone & laptop)
A new solo set of compositions from a 70's SoHo perspective (Niblock, Glass, Rzewski) as well as McIntyre's evolving stuplimity no.3 for trombone and laptop.

BIO
Christopher McIntyre leads a multi-faceted career in the contemporary arts as a performer, composer, and curator/producer. He performs on trombone and synthesizer in a variety of settings, both acoustic and live-electronic, that often incorporate improvisation within notation. Current projects include leading TILT Brass Band, 7X7 Trombone Band, and electro-improv group Lotet, and collaborative efforts including composer/performer ensemble Ne(x)tworks, and cjMjs (duo with Michael J. Schumacher). His compositional aesthetic encompasses elements of site-specificity, self-referential "sampling" between works, and gradually shifting aural tableaux typically generated by limited improvisative strategies. He has contributed work to the repertoire of Lotet, TILT, Ne(x)tworks, 7X7 Trombone Band, and Downtown Ensemble’s Flexible Orchestra. Beyond performing and creating music, McIntyre is active as a curator and concert producer. He has served as Associate Music Curator at The Kitchen, where he acted as Artistic Director of the ten-piece experimental chamber orchestra Kitchen House Blend, and lead curator of live events during New Sound, New York, a citywide festival focusing on current trends in installation and performative sound art. Recent curatorial projects include the 2007 MATA Festival, and programming the month of June at The Stone.

STONE LISTING
The Jacob Garchik Trio
Jacob Garchik (trombone, compositions) Jacob Sacks (piano) Dan Weiss (drums)
Elegant compositions for a bass-less ensemble with plenty of space to explore creative imaginations.

BIO
Trombonist and composer Jacob Garchik, born and raised in San Francisco, has lived in New York since the mid 90's. Downbeat magazine called him "Trombonist-to-watch" and his debut album, Abstracts, was called "a bouquet of appealingly compact excursions" by the New York Times.

One of New York City's busiest freelancers, Jacob has performed with Lee Konitz and Steve Swallow, and has contributed arrangements to the Kronos Quartet. He is a member of the Lee Konitz New Nonet, the Ohad Talmor/Steve Swallow Sextet, the John Hollenbeck Large Ensemble, the Ben Gerstein Collective, 4inObjects, Slavic Soul Party, and the Four Bags.

Josh Roseman (trombone, bass, electronics) Curtis "CURHA" Hasselbring (trombone, guitar, FX) Jacob Garchik (trombone, accordion, possibly tuba) Tyshawn Sorey (trombone, percussion) with guest Barney McAll (sheep dip, samples, televisions, music boxes, stuff parakeet)
The WATER SURGEONS won Dublin Harbor's Lobstar Cage "synchronized brass" awared in 1987.
This "elite quartet" generates a lurid, expansive chromatic canvas. Roseman, Garchik, Hasselbring and Sorey demonstrate a healthy lack of regard for much of nothing, be it diatonic or trombonist.
Sadly, they seem to prefer to strap things on, inclusive of accordions, cheap guitar and a drumset, resulting in a sentimental morass of the harmolodic variety.
Hoping the SURGEONS present their extemporal acoustic "A" material for their debut at the STONE! And leave that weird loud dubby stuff in Brooklyn.
with "Guest Surgeon," Barney "Scratch" Mcall on found devices and ambience.

Kevin James (trombone) Tomas Ulrich (cello) Michael Evans (percussion)
Using field recordings of the nearly extinct Quileute language ranging from early 20th century wax cylinder found items to language tapes designed to keep Quileute alive, this will be an extended improvisatory “conversation” exploring new approaches to melody harmony, & tone production.

BIO
Kevin James is a composer, trombonist, educator and thinker. He’s won some awards and grants and commissions from a goodly number of impressive-sounding organizations. He feels privileged when great musicians play his music and loves to have the chance to sit among great musicians to play his horn. Now and then his music gets played on the radio. Which is cool. He loves to try new things and to work with the human voice in it’s “natural state”. You may know him from his work on The Portraits Project, which is a 90-minute multimedia "opera-lingua" on the theme of homelessness.

Ray Anderson and .......
Ray Anderson (trombone) with guest(s) to be announced.

"One of the most compellingly original trombonists." Gary Giddins

BIO
Described by critic Gary Giddins as “one of the most compellingly original trombonists,” Ray Anderson is by turns a supremely lyrical player and bold texturalist, a warmly natural-sounding soloist and footloose innovator. Broadening the trombone's sonic scope with his extended techniques, brilliantly unconventional use of the plunger mute and demonstrative vocal-like tones, he played a major role in reawakening interest in the instrument in the '80s.

Named five straight years as best trombonist in the Down Beat Critics Poll and declared “the most exciting slide brass player of his generation” by the Penguin Guide to Jazz on CD, Anderson has shown remarkable range. He has led or co-led a daunting assortment of tradition-minded and experimental groups, big bands, blues and funk projects and even a trombone quartet. He is recognized as an original and compelling composer and has recorded more than 70 of his own compositions with these groups. He has also demonstrated his special supportive skills on a remarkably wide assortment of albums by Anthony Braxton, David Murray, Charlie Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra, Dr. John, the George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band, Luther Allison, Bennie Wallace, Henry Threadgill, Barbara Dennerlein, John Scofield, Roscoe Mitchell, the New York Composers Orchestra, Sam Rivers' Rivbea Orchestra and others.

From 1975 to the present he has performed and recorded for composers, ensembles, bands, theatre, and dance companies. As a Professor of Music at Ohio Wesleyan University, he teaches with the New York Arts Program, a program of the Great Lakes Colleges Association. Since 1978, he has been Artistic Director of The Loris Bend Foundation, Inc., a non-profit producer and presenter of music, dance, and media. Decoupage is an improvising chamber ensemble focused on creating maximum color and texture with minimal musical content. The group's repertoire, composed by Curtis, consists of pieces that are (mostly) quiet by nature but maintain a high level of inner turmoil.

BIO

As a composer, Curtis has created a wide variety of music including a wind ensemble piece (“Five Songs Without Words” premiered in 1997), “Quintet for Trumpet and Strings” (1998), a trio for alto saxophone, piano and casio (“Power Ballad #1”, 2000) and a saxophone quartet (“Don’t Turn a Bug into a Caveman”, 1996).  In addition to his through-composed works, Curtis has written a wide variety of music incorporating improvisation, including many big band pieces (written for the Either Orchestra, 1988-1993), dozens of small group pieces (composed for the New Mellow Edwards among other groups, 1988-present) and improvised chamber music (much of which has been composed for the ensemble “Decoupage,” 2005-present).   Curtis also creates his own peculiar brand of electronica under the name “Curha” including many remixes of his own compositions as well as original pieces combining his compositional approach with modern beat science and sampling technology.
